The digital transport service Bolt has drawn major attention in Arusha after being credited for expanding job opportunities for both young people and I'mwomen, becoming a strong part of the fast-growing digital economy in Tanzania
This was highlighted during a gathering of more than 100 public relations officers from different African institutions, held at the East African Community Conference Hall in Arusha, where discussions focused on how digital platforms are reshaping employment across the continent
Presenting on behalf of Bolt Tanzania, the company’s Public Relations manager said Bolt has significantly increased financial opportunities for Tanzanians, especially young people who rely on motorcycles and cars to earn daily income
According to the officer, the platform has also seen a notable rise in the number of women joining as drivers, a positive shift in a sector that was once dominated by men
He noted that this trend has helped reduce unemployment and created a reliable source of income through technology, adding that Bolt is continuing to improve its systems to ensure both drivers and customers receive safe and efficient services
Communication experts at the meeting said companies like Bolt represent a new direction in Africa’s job market—one that should be supported by governments, youth groups and financial institutions to boost income and strengthen local economies
Some Bolt drivers in Arusha said the platform has helped them earn more stable daily income compared to the past, when they had limited access to customers
They urged the government to continue creating a friendly environment for digital companies in order to open more opportunities for young people and women across the country
