The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Felista Mdemu, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling the pledges made by Tanzania during the Generation Equality Forum 2021, with a specific focus on promoting economic justice and rights for women.
Speaking on September 10, 2025, during the opening of a review meeting for the implementation of the Generation Equality Programme held at Edema Hotel in Morogoro, Mdemu underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in driving progress.
“We must work together, with everyone playing their part, to fulfill the country’s commitments and build a generation founded on equality,” she said.
She emphasized that the government, in partnership with stakeholders such as UN Women and LANDESA, will continue to strengthen coordination efforts to ensure that challenges faced by women, youth, and other marginalized groups are addressed collectively.
Mdemu also called on coordinators from government ministries and public institutions to provide accurate and timely reports on programme interventions. She urged the inclusion of indicators, photographic evidence, and feature stories to support the preparation of Tanzania’s five-year national progress report.
“We will continue working closely with all stakeholders,” she noted, “with the expectation that this meeting will generate concrete information to enhance programme implementation in the years ahead.”
Meanwhile, the Assistant Director for Gender Development, Juliana Kibonde, explained that the meeting was organized to collect implementation updates from various ministries and institutions, review achievements and challenges, and develop joint strategies for strengthening the programme.
“Such evaluations are essential to ensure Tanzania remains at the forefront in promoting gender equality and economically empowering women,” she stated.
On her part, Mwanaamani Mtowo, Assistant Director of Social Welfare from the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, highlighted the strong cooperation between her office and the Ministry of Community Development in creating decent and inclusive working environments for public servants.
“These efforts will be sustained to further strengthen the Generation Equality Programme, particularly in the area of rights and equal opportunities for public employees,” she affirmed.
The meeting served as a platform for reflection and strategy, reaffirming the critical role of multi-stakeholder collaboration in achieving gender equality and ensuring no one is left behind in the development agenda.
