TANAPA Emerges Victorious, Bags 7 Prestigious World Travel Awards

The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) has made history after winning seven major awards at the World Travel Awards (WTA) — a globally renowned platform recognizing excellence in the tourism industry. The achievement marks a significant milestone for TANAPA, affirming its unwavering dedication to conserving Tanzania’s natural heritage and promoting both domestic and international tourism.

The awards were secured through seven of Tanzania’s national parks, showcasing the diversity and unique attractions found within the country. Notably, Serengeti National Park was once again crowned Africa’s Leading National Park, winning the title for the seventh consecutive year. The park is globally celebrated for its pristine wilderness and the iconic Great Migration.

“This victory shows the world-class standard of our national parks and the dedication of our teams on the ground,” said Allan Kijazi, Director General of TANAPA. “Winning seven awards is not only a matter of national pride, but also a symbol of Tanzania's rising profile on the global tourism map.”

Mount Kilimanjaro National Park took home the title of Africa’s Leading Mountain National Park, thanks to Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, which continues to draw thousands of climbers and adventure seekers from around the world.

“Mount Kilimanjaro remains one of the continent’s most iconic symbols. This award is proof of its global appeal and the efforts to conserve and promote it,” a TANAPA official remarked.

Nyerere National Park was named Africa’s Leading Scenic National Park, recognizing its breathtaking landscapes and unique ecosystems.

“Nyerere represents the beauty and biodiversity that Tanzania has to offer. We are thrilled that its scenic value is now acknowledged at the highest level,” the park’s management stated.

Tarangire National Park was honored as Africa’s Leading Elephant Safari Park, highlighting its rich elephant population and remarkable safari experiences.

Meanwhile, Serengeti National Park also won the award for Africa’s Leading Big Five Game Destination, affirming its status as a top location to spot the iconic African wildlife: lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos.

Ruaha National Park received the award for Africa’s Leading Cultural Safari Destination, showcasing Tanzania’s deep cultural heritage alongside its natural beauty.

Kitulo National Park stood out as Africa’s Leading Honeymoon Destination, recognized for its romantic ambiance and unique floral landscapes.

“These awards are not only an achievement for TANAPA, but a national asset that boosts our visibility and supports economic development,” said Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Angellah Kairuki.

Tanzania as a whole triumphed at the World Travel Awards, claiming 27 out of 60 total awards. This includes 11 awards for government institutions such as best tourism attractions, best tourism board in Africa, best safari destination in Africa, and best airport in Africa.

The private sector also made a strong showing, collecting 16 awards across various categories including best safari companies, best hotel services, and best beach hotels.

“The success of both public and private sectors in these awards showcases the unity and strength of our tourism industry,” added Kairuki.

A major contributor to this success is the leadership and vision of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whose initiatives have significantly raised the profile of Tanzania’s tourism sector. Notably, the launch of The Royal Tour documentary, increased budget allocations to tourism, infrastructure improvements, and a friendly investment climate have all played a vital role.

“This is a proud moment for Tanzania,” said President Samia Suluhu Hassan. “We have shown the world our unmatched beauty, our dedication to conservation, and our openness to the world.”

Tanzania’s network of 21 national parks, spread across the country, now stands as a powerful testament to the nation’s tourism potential and its commitment to sustainable development.

“This achievement will open up more investment opportunities, boost international awareness, and empower local communities through tourism,” concluded Allan Kijazi.

These awards not only place Tanzania among the top global destinations, but also strengthen the country’s economic foundation by attracting tourists and generating foreign exchange. Most importantly, they inspire continued conservation and development of the country’s natural wonders for generations to come.
