The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Hassan Abbas, on May 8, 2025, conducted a site visit to assess the progress of the “Serengeti National Park Golf Course” — a flagship strategic tourism project located in the Fort Ikoma area, just outside the renowned Serengeti National Park.
The project, aimed at introducing golf and sports tourism as an additional attraction in the Serengeti ecosystem, is a bold step toward diversifying Tanzania’s tourism portfolio.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Abbas lauded the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) and its leadership for their vision and commitment to expanding the country’s tourism offerings.
“I commend the TANAPA Board of Trustees, the management team, and the Serengeti National Park leadership for their efforts in moving this ambitious project forward,” said Dr. Abbas.
“This golf course is not just an infrastructure development — it is a gateway to a new form of tourism. I urge TANAPA to ensure that the project is completed on schedule so we can begin to tap into the growing market of sports tourism.”
He emphasized that once completed, the golf course will become a unique product in the region, offering tourists a rare blend of world-class golf and breathtaking natural surroundings — a combination that will enhance Tanzania's competitive edge in global tourism.
Dr. Abbas was accompanied by top TANAPA officials including the Conservation Commissioner, Musa Nassoro Kuji; Senior Assistant Conservation Commissioner for the Western Zone, Izumbe Msindai, who also serves as the Western Zone Conservation Commander; and Serengeti National Park’s senior management led by Senior Assistant Conservation Commissioner Stephano Msumi and the Chief Park Warden.
The Serengeti National Park Golf Course is envisioned as a high-end attraction that aligns with the government's strategic plan to elevate tourism earnings while maintaining ecological integrity. The project is also expected to create employment opportunities and boost local economies around the park.
With Serengeti already globally acclaimed for its wildlife and the Great Migration, the introduction of a premier golf facility is anticipated to broaden the park’s appeal to new visitor segments, blending sport, nature, and luxury in one of the world’s most iconic landscapes.
