WORLD BANK PRESIDENT ARRIVES IN TANZANIA

World Bank Group (WBG) President, Ajay Banga, has arrived in Tanzania to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, known as "Mission 300."

The summit is scheduled to take place from January 27 to 28, 2025, at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam.

At the Julius Nyerere International Airport, Mr. Banga was welcomed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Cosato Chumi, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.

He was accompanied by Dr. Natu Mwamba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Elsie Kanza, Tanzania’s Ambassador to the United States, Nathan Belete, World Bank Country Director for Tanzania, and other senior government officials.

The summit aims to bring together African Heads of State and key stakeholders in the energy and finance sectors to discuss strategies for providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy to 300 million people across Africa by 2030.

“The World Bank has been a critical partner in supporting energy access projects in Tanzania and across Africa.

Our work has included funding grid expansion, renewable energy development, mini-grids, policy support, and private sector engagement, with a particular focus on underserved communities,” stated Nathan Belete.
