Tanzania Appoints New Commissioner for Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Issues Key Directives

 


The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ambassador Dr. Pindi Hazara Chana, has sworn in Dr. Elirehema Joshua Doriye as the new Commissioner for Conservation of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), urging him to leverage his position to deliver exceptional performance for the benefit of all Tanzanians. 



The ceremony, which took place on December 23, 2024, at the NCAA headquarters, was conducted on behalf of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.



“I congratulate you for these tremendous efforts over the past four months. Continue enhancing efforts in revenue management, improving the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), strengthening professional relationships, managing staff rights, collaborating with stakeholders, and promoting domestic tourism,” said Ambassador Chana during her address.



Ambassador Chana further highlighted the significant achievements Dr. Doriye had overseen, such as the collection of 138.68 billion Tanzanian shillings in revenue between July and November 2024. 



She also noted the impressive number of tourists—551,512, including both international (350,091) and domestic (201,421) visitors—who visited the Ngorongoro Conservation Area during this period.



General Venance Mabeyo (Retired), Chairman of the NCAA Board of Directors, also congratulated Dr. Doriye on his appointment and swearing-in. “Continue to manage conservation, tourism, and community development with professionalism, patriotism, and patience, and uphold the oath you have taken in your new role,” said General Mabeyo.



Dr. Hassan Abbasi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, praised Dr. Doriye for his appointment and for completing military conservation training. He also called on NCAA staff to fully support the implementation of the authority's goals. 


“The Ministry will provide the necessary support to ensure the success of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area,” Dr. Abbasi emphasized.



Dr. Doriye, in his acceptance speech, expressed his gratitude to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for the opportunity. “My goal is to oversee the sustainable conservation of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. 



I will ensure that our natural and historical resources are protected from degradation, while integrating more technology into our operations,” said Dr. Doriye.


Dr. Doriye further committed to enhancing strategic tourism by improving infrastructure, services, and the quality of attractions within the Ngorongoro area. 


He also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation within the institution and with the local community, to ensure successful implementation of plans and the improvement of staff welfare.



The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dunstan Lucas Kitandula, representatives from the Arusha Regional Administration, Deputy Permanent Secretaries from the Ministry, the Chairman of the NCAA Board, General Venance Mabeyo (Ret.).



District Commissioners from Karatu and Ngorongoro, local CCM leaders, NCAA Board Directors, senior officials from the Ministry, Directors from the Karatu and Ngorongoro District Councils, and officers from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority.
