The Arusha City Local Government Election Supervisor, John Kayombo, has officially announced the commencement of the voter registration process and the schedule for form collection and campaigns ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking to the press earlier today, September 26, 2024, Kayombo, who also serves as the Director of Arusha City, revealed that voter registration across district and city authorities will take place from October 11 to 20, 2024, at designated centers.
He stated that the registration exercise targets all residents aged 18 and above, encouraging those who meet the legal requirements to register and exercise their fundamental right to vote by selecting the best candidates for their local leadership.
Kayombo further noted that residents aged 21 and older are eligible to run for positions such as Street Chairperson and members of the Street Committee. He urged aspiring candidates to collect nomination forms from the offices of assistant election supervisors.
The collection and submission of nomination forms will be held from November 1 to 7, 2024, at the offices of assistant election supervisors (Ward Executive Officer’s offices), with the nomination of candidates scheduled for November 8, 2024.
Kayombo emphasized that objections to candidates can be raised between November 8 and 9, with decisions on objections being made from November 8 to 10, 2024, through the office of the assistant supervisor.
As per Regulation 23(3) of GN No. 574, appeals will be accepted between November 10 and 13, 2024, and the appeals committee will deliver its rulings within the same timeframe.
Election campaigns are set to begin on November 20 and will run until November 26, 2024, between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM daily.
Kayombo urged Arusha city residents to actively participate in the entire election process, from registration to casting their votes on election day.
The available positions include Street Chairperson and five committee members, two of whom must be women, with the aim of promoting democracy and ensuring the selection of competent leaders.
He called on citizens to turn out in large numbers on election day, which is scheduled for November 27, 2024.
