NECTA Announces Improved Form Four Exam Results for 2023,

The National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) officially announced the results of the Form Four (CSEE) and Qualifying Test (QT) exams on January 25, 2024. The overall pass rate increased by 0.87% compared to 2022, with a total of 572,359 candidates registered. Out of these, 484,823 candidates, representing 87.65%, passed the exam, showing an improvement in performance.



The Secretary-General of NECTA, Dr. Said Mohamed, revealed that 310,248 female candidates (54.21%) and 262,111 male candidates (45.79%) were among those registered. Of the candidates from schools, 97.47% passed, with 97.80% of boys and 97.19% of girls succeeding. For private candidates, 88.28% attempted the exam, and 87.65% of them passed.


Dr. Mohamed highlighted a positive trend in the quality of results, with an increase of 0.46% in candidates achieving the top three grades compared to 2022. Science subjects performed well, while Mathematics continued to face challenges despite an overall improvement in pass rates.


The announcement also included disciplinary measures, such as the cancellation of results for 102 candidates involved in exam malpractice and the dismissal of five students for using inappropriate language during the exams.


Moreover, NECTA withheld results for 376 candidates who faced health issues during the exams. These candidates will have the opportunity to retake the exams for the affected subjects in 2024, as per examination regulations.

The 2023 Form Four exam results exhibited an overall increase in pass rates, with commendable performance in science subjects, though challenges persist in the area of Mathematics.
