The ongoing campaign, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, sheds light on the profound effects of gender-based violence (GBV) in our society. Contributors, including UTPC President Keneth Simbeye and Deogratius Temba from the Gender Network Tanzania, have highlighted the significance of addressing this issue.
They emphasize that violence against women and girls has substantial repercussions on our community's development. Contributors point out that the improper division of family responsibilities results in the loss of educational opportunities for girls, undermining efforts to eradicate poverty.
The outcomes of this violence manifest in the community's health, with psychological effects imposing a burden on healthcare services. Contributors also note that gender-based violence can perpetuate a cycle, affecting workplace efficiency and causing girls to receive inadequate education.
Education emerges as a key solution, and contributors advocate for enlightening the community on the importance of gender equality and rights. They stress the need to start at the family level, ensuring equal opportunities for girls and providing education on the proper use of social media.
