CSO Week 2023 Delegates Visit Kilombero Market in Arusha

Delegates of Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Week 2023, gathered under the theme "Tech x Society: Then, Now, and Beyond," embarked on a visit to Kilombero Market in Arusha, Tanzania. This visit aimed to recognize and celebrate the contributions of women entrepreneurs to the local economy, as well as explore the intersection of technology and society.

Lawyer Deo Bwire, a prominent women's rights activist and member of a non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing gender equality, expressed his enthusiasm: "We are thrilled to witness the remarkable dedication and industriousness of the women in Kilombero Market. It is clear that women play a significant role in the local economy, and their remarkable work deserves recognition and appreciation."

Jane Magigita, a researcher and delegate at the conference, added, "We have noticed that many women in this market are actively engaged in the trade of vegetables and fruits. Their entrepreneurial endeavors not only create job opportunities but also improve the nutrition and income of numerous households. It is crucial that we support and uplift these women entrepreneurs."

During their visit, the delegates engaged in meaningful dialogues with the women entrepreneurs, listening to their stories of success and the challenges they face in their businesses. The discussions revolved around how policies and strategies can be enhanced to support these women in growing their businesses and expanding their economic opportunities.

This visit to Kilombero Market was a remarkable part of the CSO Week 2023 program. The conference, held under the theme "Tech x Society: Then, Now, and Beyond," serves as a platform for activists, researchers, and civil society organizations to delve into a wide range of topics. These include gender equality, community empowerment, social justice, and sustainable development, with a specific focus on the evolving relationship between technology and society.

The delegates hope that their experiences at Kilombero Market will contribute to ongoing efforts to strengthen women's rights and promote gender equality in Tanzania, all within the framework of a rapidly changing technological landscape.
