The Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), Retired General George Waitara, and TANAPA Conservation Commissioner Musa Nassoro Kuji, joined Tanzanians on November 21, 2024, in mourning the victims of the tragic Kariakoo building collapse.
Retired General Waitara expressed deep condolences to the victims, saying, “TANAPA, with great sadness, stands in solidarity with the business community and all Tanzanians to mourn the Kariakoo traders affected by the building collapse. To the families who lost loved ones, we pray for their eternal peace, and to the injured, we wish a speedy recovery.”
As a gesture of support, General Waitara presented a cheque worth TZS 20 million to Dr. Jim James Yonazi, the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, and Coordination). The funds were offered as a condolence contribution to support the victims of the unfortunate incident.
Dr. Yonazi expressed gratitude to TANAPA for their compassion and solidarity, highlighting the importance of collective support in such difficult times.
“This assistance is significant. Any contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference—some citizens contribute as little as TZS 1,000, and that is the spirit of Tanzanian unity. We are also grateful to those who are not present here but continue to support the government in addressing this tragedy,”said Dr. Yonazi.
