EWURA URGES WATER AUTHORITIES TO PROVIDE ACCURATE DATA TO IMPROVE WATER SERVICES

Engineer Jovitus Kichum, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water, urged water authority officials to ensure that data entered into the MajIs system accurately reflects actual conditions.

This, he stressed, is essential for the government to effectively address challenges and enhance the provision of clean water and sanitation services nationwide.

The call was reiterated by Dr. James Andilile, Director General of the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), during a workshop in Dodoma with officials from district and small urban water and sanitation authorities.

Dr. Andilile emphasized that precise data is crucial for implementing government plans aimed at strengthening the water sector in Tanzania.

EWURA recently reviewed data submitted through the MajIs system for the 2023/24 fiscal year and identified inaccuracies in the reported levels of water production, service availability, sanitation management, water access, demand, quality, and water loss.

“Our primary mission is to ensure Tanzanians receive reliable, quality water services that meet their daily needs.

When we lack accurate statistics, it becomes difficult to deliver these services effectively. It is therefore crucial that data submissions are prioritized and accurate,” Dr. Andilile stated.
