Swahili International Tourism Expo SITE 2024 to Bring Together Over 120 Exhibitors and Tourism Service Providers

The Director General of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), Ephraim Mafuru, has announced preparations for the 8th Swahili International Tourism Expo (SITE) 2024, which will be held from October 11 to 13 in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking to the press today, September 24, 2024, Mafuru stated that the exhibition will bring together more than 120 exhibitors showcasing tourism products and services, as well as nearly 120 international hosted buyers from key markets for Tanzania's tourism sector, including countries in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

Expected participants include tour operators, accommodation providers, travel agents, cruise ship agents, and tour guides. Also participating will be tourism associations, tourism entrepreneurs, tourism boards, conservation authorities, financial institutions, and tourism learning institutions.

Countries confirmed to participate so far include China, Denmark, Finland, Japan, South Africa, Spain, India, Oman, Russia, Egypt, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Brazil, Germany, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Lesotho, and Tanzania.

Activities during the SITE 2024 will include tourism exhibitions, business meetings (B2B, B2G, B2C, G2G), seminars on tourism and marketing, a Tourism Investment Forum, and educational tours to various tourist attractions (FAM Trips). These trips will focus on the Southern Circuit, Western Circuit, and Zanzibar, with destinations such as Gombe National Park, Mikumi National Park, Ruaha National Park, Nyerere National Park, and Mafia Island.

The Swahili International Tourism Expo was established in 2014 to connect stakeholders in the tourism value chain from both within and outside Tanzania. Since its inception, SITE has strengthened business networks, especially between local tourism businesses and international source markets, contributing to increased tourist arrivals and growth in the tourism sector.

The event provides a platform to promote Tanzania’s tourism attractions and investment opportunities. The 2024 edition, which marks the 8th year of the Expo, will be held at the Mlimani City Conference Hall in Dar es Salaam.

This year’s theme is “Explore Tanzania for a Lifetime Investment and Seamless Tourism Experience.”

The guiding policies for SITE 2024 include the National Tourism Policy of 1999, the International Tourism Marketing Strategy (2020-2025), the Third Five-Year National Development Plan (FYDP III 2021/22 – 2025/26), the 2020-2025 Manifesto of the ruling party, and the “Tanzania: The Royal Tour” initiative led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
