President Samia Warns Tanzanians Against Forest Fires, Urges Conservation Effort

President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has urged citizens to stop the harmful practice of setting forests on fire and instead focus on protecting and conserving them.

She made these remarks today, September 26, 2024, in Namtumbo District, Ruvuma Region, while addressing the public in a gathering.

“Stop burning forests, and if it is necessary to set fire to your farm, ensure that the fire does not spread and destroy nearby conserved forest areas,” President Samia emphasized.

She pointed out that when citizens burn forests, it not only damages the environment but also harms road infrastructure, ultimately hindering development.

Addressing the issue of elephants raised by Namtumbo Member of Parliament, Vita Kawawa, President Samia said that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, under Minister Dr. Pindi Chana, is continuing to work on resolving the problem.
