 Tanzania Government Prioritizes Scientific Research for National Development




In his address at the 32nd Scientific Research Conference organized by the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, emphasized the pivotal role of scientific research in driving socio-economic development in Tanzania. 



Representing Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango, Biteko underscored the government's belief in the indispensable nature of research, stating, "There is no development without research." 


He urged for concerted efforts in scientific inquiry, emphasizing its role in informed resource allocation and decision-making. Furthermore, Biteko highlighted the government's commitment to supporting research in the healthcare sector, urging collaboration among research institutions to address national challenges. 


Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Godwin Mollel, reiterated this commitment, emphasizing the government's focus on building local research capacity to tackle emerging health issues. The event also showcased NIMR's impactful research contributions, including the development of a single-dose cervical cancer vaccine. 


NIMR's Director General, Prof. Said Aboud, emphasized the institute's role in shaping healthcare policies and improving healthcare delivery in Tanzania through collaborative initiatives. Biteko's visit to laboratory booths showcasing disease diagnostic tools and traditional medicine research further highlighted the government's investment in advancing scientific research for national development.
