Government Cancels 227 Mining License Applications:

Minister Mavunde Urges Compliance

Dodoma, April 24, 2024 - The Minister of Mining, Anthony Mavunde, has announced the cancellation of a total of 227 mining license applications due to failure to meet the necessary criteria for processing.

Speaking at a press conference in Dodoma today, Minister Mavunde emphasized the government's commitment to prioritizing the development of the mining sector under the leadership of our beloved President, Samia Suluhu Hassan.

"Under the Sixth Administration, we are determined to uphold these noble efforts of our leader," stated Mavunde.

He further explained that the cancellations were part of the government's ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with mining laws and regulations, citing instances where applicants failed to pay required fees or provide necessary documentation.

Additionally, Minister Mavunde highlighted concerns regarding misuse of the online application system, with 34 users identified for submitting applications without proper payment.

Mavunde reiterated the government's stance on enforcing mining laws to ensure proper utilization of mining resources for national economic growth.

Since the announcement of the cancellation of 2,648 licenses last month, there has been increased compliance with payment regulations, resulting in a revenue collection of TZS 2,430,647,335.99 by the Mining Commission.

In conclusion, Minister Mavunde directed the Mining Commission to continue scrutinizing license applications to identify those not meeting legal requirements for further cancellations to accommodate deserving applicants.
