The Minister of Mining, Anthony Mavunde, has announced the government's plans to commence the construction of a large, modern, and well-equipped laboratory for testing mineral samples in the Kizota area of Dodoma.
This initiative aims to align with the rapid growth of the mining sector in Tanzania and meet the expectations of stakeholders.
The construction of this state-of-the-art laboratory will be accompanied by the establishment of regional laboratories and capacity building for Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) staff to keep pace with global technological advancements.
Mavunde made these remarks Dodoma, April 24, 2024 during a joint meeting with all GST employees to discuss strategies for enhanced performance.
"Our primary responsibility is to ensure that GST provides reliable and accurate laboratory reports to miners, a task that the government cannot overlook," stated Mavunde.
"We are committed to building a large, modern, and reliable laboratory that will provide services within and beyond Tanzania's borders," he added.
Furthermore, Minister Mavunde emphasized the significant role of GST in the growth of the mining sector, stating that GST is the heart of the mining industry in Tanzania. Consequently, the government continues to empower GST to efficiently fulfill its duties.
Mavunde urged all employees to work diligently and professionally, warning that he would not tolerate anyone failing to contribute to the realization of the ministry's vision and expectations of stakeholders.
He stressed the importance of unity and solidarity in propelling the institution forward, encouraging all employees to work as a cohesive team. "Our unity will help us achieve our set goals of conducting comprehensive research of at least 50% by the year 2030," he emphasized.
Providing preliminary remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mining, Kheri Abdul Mahimbali, assured GST employees that various employment challenges would be addressed to improve their working environment.
Expressing gratitude, GST Executive Director Dr. Mussa Budeba thanked the government for prioritizing GST and pledged to oversee the implementation of all directives aimed at enhancing the institution's efficiency.
