Youths have been urged to embrace innovation as a measure to address the unemployment crisis.

Technical skills acquired through innovations would turn them into job creators rather than job seekers.

The advice was made in Arusha recently by the Arumeru District Commissioner Ms Emmanuela Kaganda when she inaugurated Innovation Week 2023 for Arusha region.

The event was organized by Westerwelle Startup Haus Arusha (WSHA), an outfit based in the safari capital.

She said products made from their innovative projects can help the unemployed youths earn income for their livelihood.

Ms Kaganda lauded WSHA for the initiative, saying it has significantly addressed challenges facing the youths.

She called on innovation groups attached to the organization to use the event to display and market their products.

WSHA director for Arusha centre Isaack Shayo said the organization has decided to organize Innovation Week throughout the country.

The theme for this year's event held countrywide was 'Innovation for a  Competitive Economy'.

He added that was also using the occasion to reach out to the public for awareness on home grown innovations.

He appealed to the youths to turn up in big numbers during such events, noting that there were successful entrepreneurs from these groups. Among them is Ms Eliwilimina Buberwa.

She is currently the director of an outfit called Msichana which has spearheaded innovative ideas for unemployed youths.

Ms Buberwa challenged the youths to grab the opportunities that come with innovations in order to improve their livelihoods.
