ARUSHA SET TO HOST FOR FIRST EVER FOOD EXPO

 

A regional agriculture expo designed to bring on table new innovations in crop production and marketing will take place in Arusha next week

These include best agronomic practices that would add value in production and modern processing and packaging technologies of finished products ready for the markets.

The Moshi-based Kilifair Promotion Company will organize the three day event in collaboration with the East African Community (EAC) and a German aid agency, GIZ. 

Also roped in is the Arusha-based TAHA Group which promotes horticulture and whose chief development manager Anthony Chamanga said;

"We are excited to have and be part of such an Expo that depicts the state of art and taste of foods that Tanzania provides".

The focus of the inaugural TANZ-FOOD Expo will be on fruits, vegetables and seeds whose production has lately picked up because of the growing demand.

Mr. Chamanga said already TAHA Group has 19,700 members involved in the production of vegetables for the local and international markets".

"We are happy that our members will get to attend this Expo and have a glimpse of the unlimited opportunities", he pointed out.

Kilifair managing director Tom Kunkler said they intend to make the fair, slated for March 11th to 13th, an annual event.

The Moshi-based firm has been organizing an annual tourism firm in the northern regions and the last one took place here in June 2019.

"Do not confuse what will take place next week with the tourism fair.The coming event is a fair dedicated to food production", he said.

He added; "TANZ-FOOD Expo is a new international consumer trade fair for the Tanzania food and agro-industry".

More than 120 exhibitors from Tanzania and Kenya are expected at the expo that will take place at Magereza open grounds near the Arusha airport.

Kilifair promotion director Dominic Shoo said the firm has diversified to agri-business fairs in realization of the importance of food production.  

"Agricultural sector does not only feed our nation but other countries as well. That is why we have decided to showcase 'taste of Tanzania' as its tagline.
