The Conservation Commissioner of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), Dr. Elirehema Doriye, on May 12, 2025, officiated the promotion and decoration of 621 paramilitary conservation personnel, comprising 145 officers and 476 rangers.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Doriye urged the newly promoted staff to honor the oath they took by upholding high ethical standards, discipline, obedience to the law, teamwork, patriotism, and integrity in the execution of their duties.
"Today, you have taken an oath and received military ranks. You must demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and its resources. These ranks come with greater responsibilities that require dedication and accountability. Be exemplary in your conduct by adhering to discipline, integrity, lawfulness, patriotism, and by avoiding any form of corruption," Dr. Doriye emphasized.
He further reminded them that a promotion not only signifies recognition but also the assumption of increased leadership responsibilities in managing conservation, tourism, community development, security, and the protection of natural and cultural heritage within the area.
"Military training for NCAA staff will be continuous to maintain physical fitness and enhance operational effectiveness among officers and rangers," he added.
Earlier, Senior Assistant Conservation Commissioner (SACC) Salma Chisonga, who heads the Department of Human Resources and Administration, explained that the promotions followed approvals issued by the Permanent Secretary in the President's Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, covering the years 2021/2022 through 2024/2025.
"Of the 145 promoted officers, 5 were elevated to Chief Conservation Officer Grade I, 21 to Chief Conservation Officer Grade II, 31 to Senior Conservation Officer, 56 to Conservation Officer Grade I, and 32 to Conservation Officer Grade II," said SACC Chisonga.
"Among the 476 promoted rangers, 39 were promoted to Senior Ranger Grade I, 54 to Senior Ranger Grade II, 70 to Senior Ranger, 86 to Ranger Grade I, and 227 to Ranger Grade II," she added.
This event is part of NCAA’s broader strategy to boost staff morale, strengthen leadership, and enhance efficiency in protecting the globally significant Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
