Friends of Serengeti Switzerland Donates Conservation Equipment Worth Millions to Tanzania

In a bid to support the government's efforts in conserving and protecting wildlife resources, including controlling dangerous and destructive animals, Friends of Serengeti Switzerland has donated aid worth Tsh 30,940,000, including 20 tents, 20 sleeping bags, and 2,120 liters of fuel, to assist in patrol activities for TAWA Rangers in the Northern Region.

Handing over the donation to the Acting Conservation Commander of TAWA in the Northern Region, Privatus Kasisi, at the Regional Offices in Arusha on June 9, 2024, Suzan Peter Shio, on behalf of the Friends of Serengeti Switzerland board, stated that their goal is to oversee environmental conservation and wildlife to ensure Tanzania maintains its natural state for current and future generations.

"We have been sponsoring conservation activities in Tanzania for several years, with TAWA for over a decade, mainly focusing on fuel donations to aid Rangers in patrols," she said.

Suzan thanked TAWA for their ongoing cooperation with stakeholders, acknowledging that their collaboration has been a motivating factor in continuing their sponsorship.

In response, Privatus Kasisi expressed gratitude to the Friends of Serengeti for the donation, aimed at enhancing conservation and protection efforts, especially in addressing the challenges posed by dangerous and destructive wildlife in his jurisdiction.

"As TAWA, we sincerely thank the board of Friends of Serengeti Switzerland for their various aids in managing conservation and protection of wildlife resources. They have consistently provided us with fuel, tents, and binoculars," he said.

He noted that the Northern Region oversees vast areas covering four regions: Manyara, Arusha, Tanga, and Kilimanjaro, which face challenges from dangerous and destructive wildlife. He emphasized that the donation, especially the tents, will greatly assist Rangers in performing their duties effectively, particularly in responding to emergency situations that require them to operate in areas without permanent Ranger stations.

He also appealed to the board to continue supporting TAWA, especially in the Northern Region, as they manage large areas with significant challenges posed by dangerous and destructive wildlife, emphasizing the continued need for assistance.
