Deputy Minister of Energy, Judith Kapinga, has announced that the government is advancing various electricity projects to improve access in Songwe region, including building an electricity substation and switching station.
Kapinga made the remarks on May 8, 2024, in Dodoma while responding to a question from Mbozi Member of Parliament, George Mwenisongole, who sought an update on the commencement of the Kakozi Electricity Substation construction.
In her response, Kapinga stated, "Through the TAZA project by TANESCO, the government is in initial stages of constructing the Nkangamo (Tunduma) Electricity Substation, approximately 28 kilometers from Kakozi Village, Mbozi. Construction is expected to start soon, with the contract already signed."
She added that completing the Nkangamo (Tunduma) Substation will ensure reliable power supply to Kakozi Village and other areas in Mbozi.
Regarding overall electricity accessibility in Songwe, Kapinga mentioned that the region currently receives power from the Mwakibete Substation in Mbeya, a considerable distance away, leading to challenges in power access.
To address this, she said the government is taking measures, including constructing a switching station in Songwe and the upcoming substation through the TAZA project, alongside ongoing infrastructure improvements.
Responding to a question from Urambo Member of Parliament, Margaret Sitta, about the completion timeline of the Uhuru Electricity Substation, Kapinga mentioned that the substation is nearing completion, enhancing the electricity situation in Urambo district.
