Nigeria Shuts Down Chinese-Owned Wholesale Store Over Alleged Discrimination
Nigeria's authorities have closed a wholesale store owned by Chinese nationals in the capital city of Abuja, citing allegations of discriminating against African traders.
The Abuja flagship store is accused of "allowing only Chinese nationals to conduct their businesses," Nigeria's consumer protection agency stated.
The store's owner has been summoned for questioning, while the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria denies the racial discrimination claims.
The flagship store operates within a building managed by the China General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC).
Boladale Adeyinka, an official at Nigeria's Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), revealed that an investigation has been launched into the allegations.
This comes amid social media outrage sparked by Nigerians sharing their experiences of being barred by security when attempting to enter the retail outlet.
