The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) has launched a voting campaign for the Best Tourism Attraction in Africa Award for the year 2024 at an event held at the Ngorongoro Building in Arusha City.
Launching the campaign, the Acting Commissioner for Conservation, Victoria Shayo, stated that the voting exercise will take 131 days starting from this April and is expected to conclude in September 2024.
She noted that the Ngorongoro Conservation Area won the award last year, organized by the World Travel Awards, after emerging victorious in a competition that included other attractions such as Table Mountain, Harbeestpoort Aerial Cableway, V & A Waterfront, Robben Island in South Africa, Lake Malawi, Okavango Delta in Botswana, the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, and Kilimanjaro National Park, which promoted our country and increased tourist numbers.
Commissioner Shayo emphasized the importance of these awards in advancing the tourism sector nationally and globally, urging Tanzanians and all visitors to Tanzania to vote for Ngorongoro to help defend its title.
Regarding the increase in tourists in the country, the Acting Commissioner explained that by the mid-year of the 2023/24 fiscal year, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area had already received over seven hundred thousand tourists, contributing over 170 billion Tanzanian shillings to the authority.
On her part, the Tourism Services Manager of NCAA, Mariam Kobelo, called on the media to continue encouraging citizens about the importance of visiting tourist attractions and gaining knowledge about them.
Meanwhile, the Chief Tourism Officer of NCAA, Mr. Peter Makutian, commended all visitors to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area who, through their enthusiastic voting in 2023, helped the area become the best tourism attraction in Africa for the year 2023.
In this year 2024, a total of five African countries, including Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Egypt, and Malawi, are vying for this prestigious award.
