Minister Suspends TANROADS Manager Over Poor Road Infrastructure Management

The Minister of Works, Innocent Bashungwa, has suspended the Manager of TANROADS in Lindi Region, Eng. Andrea Kasamwa, for failing to oversee the restoration of road infrastructure and bridges in Liwale District, Lindi Region. This has resulted in the closure of major roads connecting the district with other areas.

Bashungwa took this action on March 6, 2024, while inspecting road infrastructure in Liwale District and expressing dissatisfaction with the management of work by the Roads Agency (TANROADS) in Lindi Region.

Accompanied by the Deputy Minister of the President's Office - Regional Administration and Local Government, Deo Ndejembi, Bashungwa witnessed the restoration of the Liwale - Nangurukuru road, which had been washed away by water. The work was being overseen by a philosopher assisted by local residents, as the contractor was absent from the site.

He stated, "It is unacceptable for us to travel from Dodoma all the way to Liwale due to the significant challenges with the existing road infrastructure. President Samia Suluhu Hassan was forced to provide her helicopter for us to reach here, but there is no contractor on site; instead, they have assigned someone with a philosophy degree to oversee road construction work."

Furthermore, Bashungwa instructed the CEO of TANROADS, Eng. Mohamed Besta, to bring in experts and ensure that within four days, all main roads and bridges connecting Liwale District with other areas in the region, which are impassable, are reopened and continue to serve the public.
