Dr Slaa Raises Concerns Over Lengthy PCCB Report Compared to CAG Report

In a recent address, Dr. Wilbroad Slaa expressed surprise at the lengthy nature of the report presented by the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) compared to the report from the Controller and Auditor General (CAG). Dr. Slaa noted the customary presentation of both reports annually, with CAG's focusing on nationwide government audits, including local authorities and projects across the Union, albeit summarized. He highlighted the significance of CAG's report, citing a remarkable 99% success rate in ensuring clean audits, a testament to substantial progress.

Dr. Slaa further mentioned the international recognition of Tanzania's CAG office for auditing accounts in West Africa, particularly during times of conflict, and expanding to auditing the African Union and East African Community accounts. He noted that this continuity of audit scope was not surprising, recalling the tenure of Professor Mussa Assad.

However, Dr. Slaa expressed surprise at the extensive length of the PCCB report compared to CAG's, given CAG's broader mandate covering all government entities, exceeding 100. He emphasized the traditional focus of CAG reports on detailing procurement discrepancies. Dr. Slaa's remarks underscore the need for attention to the relative lengths and content of these crucial annual reports.
