Deputy Minister of Energy, Judith Kapinga, has asserted that the government is actively addressing the issue of power outages, and there is no sabotage as rumored.
Deputy Minister Kapinga made these remarks on December 8, 2023, responding to a question from a resident of Masimba Village, Tongwe Ward in the Muheza district, concerning frequent power outages in the area.
"I agree with him that power outages are occurring due to the current load shedding period. However, I assure you, my fellow citizens, that President has given us six months to eliminate power rationing. We are working diligently, and with the plans we have, we expect to have resolved the power rationing within these six months. The six-month period ends in March 2024, and with the funding allocated by the President, we anticipate completely ending power rationing by then," stated Deputy Minister Kapinga.
"During this period, rainfall is increasing, especially in areas where we generate power in our dams such as Kidatu, Kihansu, and Mtera. As the rains continue and water levels rise, we expect to significantly reduce the problem. I want to assure you all that there is no sabotage happening, as claimed. People selling generators or solar panels – no, the government is diligently working, keeping a close eye on everything," she added.
Furthermore, Deputy Minister Kapinga emphasized that the government's goal is to provide quality and sustainable electricity services that will aid citizens in their development activities.
She urged citizens to continue wiring their homes for electricity so that when these projects reach completion, they can easily be connected. This, she believes, will help in realizing the value of the projects being implemented in various neighborhoods and villages.
Deputy Minister Kapinga pledged to address the remaining electrification challenges in Masimba Village and assured residents that the government is committed to improving social services through various projects.
The Rural Energy Agency (REA) continues to implement various projects in the Muheza constituency to enhance community services. The constituency comprises 37 wards, 135 villages, and 522 hamlets, with all 135 villages receiving electricity through the initial REA III project (First and Second Circuits) and PERI Urbani III."
