In the words of Hon (Dr.) Peter Mutuku Mathuki, SECRETARY GENERAL of the East African Community:



"The East African Community (EAC) mourns the loss of Mr. Zephaniah Ubwani, a Tanzanian journalist whose illustrious career spanned over three decades, and who passed away on Saturday, 6th April 2024, in Arusha, Tanzania. Mr. Ubwani dedicated a significant portion of his remarkable career to covering the EAC integration process, becoming a pivotal figure in narrating the EAC's story to millions across East Africa and beyond.



With his byline gracing the pages of The Citizen and Mwananchi newspapers, as well as numerous sister publications under the Nation Media Group in East Africa, Mr. Ubwani had a profound impact on shaping public understanding of regional dynamics.



His writing, characterized by simplicity and clarity, resonated deeply with diverse audiences, earning him widespread recognition as one of the most experienced journalists covering the EAC.


Beyond his journalistic contributions, Mr. Ubwani played a crucial role in mentoring and guiding aspiring writers, instilling in them a passion for reporting on regional and global issues of significance. His commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a deeper understanding of the EAC's objectives will be remembered as a lasting legacy.
