The Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Dr. Qu Dongyu, has expressed admiration for Tanzania's youth empowerment project, "Building Better Tomorrow" (BBT), which is being implemented by the Tanzanian government.

"FAO will support this project to help the Tanzanian government achieve its goals of uplifting youth and women in the agricultural sector, in line with the agenda of the 2023 FAO conference," said Dr. Dongyu.

He made these remarks on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, during a meeting with Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa at FAO's headquarters in Rome, Italy. Additionally, the Director-General praised President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for her commitment to developing the agriculture sector and enhancing international relations.

Dr. Dongyu pledged to visit Tanzania in 2024 to witness the progress in the agriculture sector and expand discussions between Tanzania and FAO, further facilitating agricultural and blue economy development.

In response, the Prime Minister highlighted that the Tanzanian government, under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan's leadership, is expanding its agricultural focus to include irrigation, allocating 900 billion Tanzanian shillings for this purpose.
