The East African Community (EAC) institutions and affiliated bodies mourned President John Pombe Magufuli, saying he championed the fight against corruption.
They said during his tenure as the Chair of the EAC Summit he also advocated for industrialization and infrastructure development.
"His exemplary stewardship led to economic growth, elevating Tanzania to middle income status", said Peter Mathuki, the incoming EAC secretary general.
Dr. Mathuki, is currently the chief executive officer of the East African Business Council (EABC), an apex body of private sector associations based in Arusha.
He said the late Tanzanian leader, who died at Mzena hospital in Dar es Salaam, was instrumental in the fight against corruption in the EA region.
He lauded Dr. Magufuli for his vision of industrialization in Tanzania and implementation of mega infrastructure projects.
These include the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Nyerere Hydropower dam and revival of Air Tanzania, among other landmark projects.
He said as the chair of the EAC Summit in 2016/2017, he endorsed the East African Businesses Code of Conduct.
The EAC Secretariat also mourned the death of a Member of the Summit of the EAC Heads of State.
However, it said it would issue an official statement by the end of the day and that one of the late leader's achievements was free education.
The East African Law Society (EALS), another body affiliated to the Community, said the late leader was vocal against graft.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the current EAC Chair, has pledged said he will closely work with the vice president Samia Suluhu Hassan.
"I spoke to him immediately after Magufuli's death on Wednesday last week and condoled her on the death of Tanzanian leader", he said at the Nairobi State House.
The Kenyan leader ordered Kenya's flag to fly at half mast until the late Tanzanian leader was buried at his home town of Chato on March 26th.
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) also conveyed its deepest sympathy to the Vice President Ms Hassan.
It said President Magufuli played a role in Tanzania’s support of the mandate of the Mechanism, which
continued throughout the construction of its premises in Arusha.
"The Mechanism will have him as a renowned politician, a veritable patriot to Tanzania, and a bastion of support for development in the East Africa region", it said.
Mosses Allan, the chairman of Friends of East Africa, a regional lobby based in Arusha, said Dr. Magufuli has laid a firm foundation on the management of the country's mineral resources.
He dismissed fears of a power struggle following the demise of the Tanzanian leader, the first for a sitting president since the country's history.
