TURKISH EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO OPEN NEW CAMPUS IN DODOMA

Turkish Maarif Foundation (TMF) intends to open a new campus for its schools in the new capital Dodoma next year.

The facility will add to four the number of  campuses the Turkish state- owned education body has in Tanzania after two in Zanzibar and one each in Dar es Salaam and Arusha.

"It is true we are moving to Dodoma in 2021", Abdullah Server, the director of the body's (TMF) campus in Arusha said at the weekend.

He said the foundation has set aside an undisclosed amount of funds for the project and that discussions have started with Dodoma city authorities on the issue.

"We will either rent or buy premises which are available or construct our own   structures for the campus in the new capital", he said.

TMF was established in 2016 by the Turkish government to open educational institutions abroad and currently operates in 43 countries.

While the Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam campuses were set up in the last two years, the Arusha campus was launched in February this year.

It operates from SOS Children's Village Tanzania premises and expects 600 students in its primary and secondary wings when it reopens next month.

Mr.Server said TMF was upbeat on establishing an international vocational training centre in Arusha once it secures land for the purpose

He could not reveal the cost of the proposed training facility, only saying it would offer training skills on high demand for the country's progress.

He added that the organization has budgeted to spend about $ 200,000 for additional dormitories for the Arusha school campus next year.

"We have to create at least 110 sleeping slots. There are lots of applications and high demand for boarding facilities", he pointed out.

The Turkish Maarif learning centre in Arusha currently has 400 primary and secondary students. The number will rise to 600 when it reopens in January.

Under an agreement which extends to 2049, TMF would rent the SOS Children's Village premises and pay Sh. 60million annually to the latter as rent.
