Minister Pindi Inaugurates Italian Design Week Exhibition in Tanzania

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ambassador Dr. Pindi Chana, officially inaugurated the Italian Design Week Exhibition, which showcases photographs of renowned Italian designers from the past.

She commended Italy for its ongoing collaboration with Tanzania in the tourism sector.

The exhibition, which opened on February 10, 2025, at the National Museum and House of Culture in Dar es Salaam, is set to run until February 20, 2025.

It aims to strengthen cooperation in tourism, history, and economic development between the two nations.

"Italy has been committed to our efforts to promote sustainable tourism and preserve our natural and cultural heritage. A great example of this collaboration is the Bawe Island project, which serves as a model for sustainable tourism. This project not only highlights the beauty of Tanzania’s islands but also demonstrates the positive impact of foreign investment on our economy," Dr. Chana emphasized.

As part of furthering this partnership, Tanzania and Italy will host a Business and Investment Forum in Dar es Salaam in the coming two days.

The forum will serve as a platform for discussions, partnerships, and outcomes that benefit both nations.

Dr. Chana encouraged participants to explore new avenues of collaboration, particularly in agricultural technology, the blue economy, the green economy, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, and creative industries.

She also urged Italy to invest in Tanzanian youth by supporting their creativity and innovation, enabling them to secure a future where both countries gain international recognition for their contributions to global markets.

"Our country is not only a hub for tourism but also a center for innovation and creativity.

Tanzanian youth are full of talent, and with the right support and investment, they can take their place among the world's leading designers and innovators," she stated.

The Italian Ambassador to Tanzania, Giuseppe Coppola, highlighted that the exhibition represents a significant opportunity for collaboration between the two nations, contributing to job creation and strengthening institutional ties between Italy and Tanzania.

Meanwhile, Giuseppe Manenti, the Trade Commissioner of the Italian Trade Agency based in Nairobi, described the exhibition as a historical and prestigious event, featuring high-level creativity and artistry through 44 photographs of famous Italian designers.

"This exhibition celebrates the winners of the Compasso d'Oro Award, reinterpreted through the lenses of historical and contemporary Italian photographers. The initiative aims to showcase photography not just as a tool for capturing reality but also as a creative medium that has contributed to the dissemination and success of Italian design," Manenti explained.

The event was attended by officials from the Italian Embassy, executives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, the National Museum of Tanzania, and key stakeholders from the tourism sector.
