Prof. Mkenda Applauds Turkish Maarif Schools for Providing Quality Education and Scholarship Opportunities for Tanzanian Students in Turkey




The Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, expressed his gratitude to the Turkish Government for its support in ensuring that all children in Tanzania have access to quality education. 




During his speech at the graduation ceremony for Form Four and Standard Seven students at the Turkish Maarif Schools in Ngaramtoni, Arusha, on October 12, 2024 he stated, "I would like to thank the Turkish Government for supporting the government of Tanzania to ensure that all children have access to quality education consistent with the existing policy."



Prof. Mkenda, represented at the event by Dr. Lyabwene Mtahabwa, the Education Commissioner, he praised the contributions of Turkish Maarif Schools to the Tanzanian education sector, commending the school's adherence to national standards.


 He noted, "I am also happy to hear that this school is following Tanzania's curriculum and employing Tanzanians in the teaching and non-teaching fields." 



Dr.  Mtahabwa, reinforced this sentiment by highlighting the school's commitment to social responsibility. 



He remarked, "I am very much impressed by the news that this school, in partnership with SOS Children's Villages, is offering 100% scholarships to children from vulnerable families for studying in Turkish Maarif Schools from kindergarten to advanced level." 





Encouraging the students, he challenged them, "I challenge you to perform even better than the previous four batches of graduates. I have observed with my own eyes that you have everything you need for success." 


This emphasis on quality education and community engagement underscores the school's vital role in shaping the future of Tanzanian youth.



The head of Turkish Maarif Schools in Arusha, Kheri Salum, shared promising results from national examinations. 


The 2023/2024 Form Six results showed significant improvement with four Division 1, five Division 2, eight Division 3, and one Division 4 from its first batch of six students. 



In the following 2024 examination, the results further enhanced to 16 Division 1, seven Division 2, and only one Division 3. Looking ahead, the school aims to achieve even better results, with expectations of primarily Division 1 and a minimal number of Division 2 results.



During the graduation ceremony, the Attorney General, Hamza Johari, was represented by Rehema Katuga, Chief Assistant Legal Officer, Office of the Attorney General, who  praised the Turkish Maarif Foundation, stating, "They have created a platform for education that nurtures excellence and respects the diverse backgrounds of the students, enriching every learning experience." 


Katuga acknowledged the challenges faced by the school in adapting to local needs but commended their determination.

 "Despite facing obstacles, they have shown remarkable determination, persevering with unwavering commitment through scholarships and partnerships, particularly with SOS Children's Villages." 



She encouraged graduates to believe in themselves, "I believe each of you has dreams. Whether you want to be a doctor, writer, scientist, athlete, or even a lawyer, keep believing in yourself. The world needs people who dream big, work hard, and are ready to shake things up."



Cengiz Polat, the Country Director of Turkish Maarif Schools in Tanzania, shared positive news about student development. 


He stated, "We have many students in our institutions worldwide. Currently, we operate 477 schools in 54 countries, educating over 55,000 students. 


We believe we are doing the right thing by investing in these young people, who, upon graduating, will enhance the conditions in their countries and strengthen our trade relationships between Turkey and Tanzania. 


Graduates of Turkish schools play a significant role in the business interactions between these nations. 


We ensure that each of us can contribute to the development of the African continent."





Ahmed Sami Demir, the School Director, expressed pride in the graduates: "You are now stepping onto the world stage. Embrace this opportunity as independent learners who take responsibility for your education." 


He also highlighted the essential role of parents in the students' success, acknowledging, "Your support has been vital from the day they were born until today."



Speaking on behalf of their fellow graduates, Rifat Hamza Johari and Sarah Mwankanye expressed heartfelt gratitude: "You have been more than just instructors; you have been our guides, mentors, and role models." 


They also thanked their parents, "Your sacrifices, love, and guidance have been the foundation upon which we have built our dreams."


This graduation ceremony was not only a celebration of academic achievements but also a reflection of the commitment to providing quality education and supporting vulnerable communities in Tanzania.
