Gadgetronix (GX), a pioneering Tanzanian technology firm known for delivering innovative energy, security, and communication solutions, has unveiled its latest product: a dual-wheel portable solar power system housed in a semi-trailer, purpose-built for mobile safari lodges and camps.
The company officially introduced this groundbreaking solution during this year’s KARIBU-KILIFAIR tourism exhibition. Building on the success of last year’s single-wheel model, GX has upgraded the design in response to customer feedback, ensuring increased capacity, stability, and mobility to meet the evolving needs of the tourism industry.
Joshua Yohana, the company’s Site Manager, explained that the system addresses a major logistical challenge faced by operators of mobile safari camps. Traditionally, moving such camps involves dismantling power and water infrastructure—an expensive and time-consuming process.
“This dual-wheel solar trailer provides a complete, mobile power solution,” Joshua said. “Camp operators no longer need to take down their electrical systems when relocating. The trailer moves fully intact and ready to power the new location immediately.”
The new system delivers an impressive 24 kilowatts (KW)—equivalent to 24,000 watts—making it powerful enough to supply electricity to an entire camp, including lighting, refrigeration, communications, and water systems. Designed for off-grid environments, it is ideal for national parks such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire, where conventional electricity is often unavailable.
In addition, the trailer’s system is hybrid-compatible, meaning it can seamlessly integrate with a generator for continuous power supply in the absence of sunlight.
Joshua noted that Gadgetronix has years of experience installing custom solar power systems for lodges and mobile camps across Tanzania’s wildlife reserves. Their approach is highly customer-centric, providing tailor-made solutions based on the unique energy needs of each client.
Beyond this innovation, Gadgetronix offers a wide range of energy and technology solutions, including:
-
Solar installations for residential, commercial, and industrial use
-
Electric gates, internet networks, and security camera systems
-
Solar water heaters and solar-powered water pumps
-
Solar and electric-powered street lighting
-
Solar refrigerators and mobile cold storage units
With offices in Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and Kenya, Gadgetronix serves clients across East Africa. The company prides itself not only on the quality of its products but also on delivering meaningful, practical solutions to real-world challenges.
“We don’t just sell equipment—we sell solutions,” Joshua emphasized. “Whether it’s for a private home, a rural village, or a luxury safari lodge, our goal is to solve our clients’ energy problems with efficiency and sustainability.”
He concluded by highlighting the broader impact of the portable solar trailer:
“This innovation marks a new era for mobile tourism infrastructure. With our solar semi-trailer, camps can move effortlessly without compromising on energy access, comfort, or sustainability. It’s a smart solution for an industry that operates deep in nature, where clean, portable energy is a necessity.”
