The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Hassan Abbasi, has announced that the film 'Amazing Tanzania', featuring the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan; the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi; and renowned Chinese actor Mr. Jin Dong, has achieved remarkable success within a short period since its debut in China earlier in May this year.
Speaking today, November 3, 2024, at a press briefing in Dar es Salaam to discuss the official closing ceremony of the 60th anniversary celebrations of Tanzania-China diplomatic relations and the launch of the 'Amazing Tanzania' film scheduled for tomorrow in Dar es Salaam, Dr. Abbasi explained that there has been a significant 69% increase in the number of tourists from China compared to previous years.
"From January to September this year, the number of tourists increased from 44,438 to approximately 54,000, with an additional 2,000 to 3,000 visitors in June, July, and September compared to last year," said Dr. Abbasi.
He further noted that successes in the tourism and cultural sectors align with strengthening diplomatic relations with the international community.
“It is in this context that Tanzania and China celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations, which began in the days of the founding leaders, Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere of Tanzania and Abeid Aman Karume of Zanzibar, together with Chairman Mao Zedong of China,” he added.
Dr. Abbasi also highlighted that alongside diplomatic ties over the past 60 years, Tanzania and China signed an agreement in 2013 to cooperate in tourism, leading the ministry to organize roadshows in China, participate in various tourism exhibitions, and promote investment opportunities. He emphasized that this agreement has enabled tourism experts to receive training in tourism and hospitality in China.
Dr. Abbasi urged service providers in the tourism sector to seize the tourism market in China, saying, “We should work together to increase the number of Chinese tourists and boost tourism revenue, while also promoting cultural products to this market.”
Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Sports, Methusela Ntonda, mentioned that the event will feature performances from artists within and outside Tanzania.
The Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Ambassador Dr. Pindi Hazara Chana, is expected to be the guest of honor, with various dignitaries from both the Tanzanian and Chinese governments anticipated to attend.
