One Dead and Five Injured in Accident Inside Ngorongoro Crater

 


On January 4, 2025, a tragic accident occurred within the Ngorongoro Crater, resulting in one fatality and five people injured. 


The accident involved a safari vehicle owned by Wakali Safaris, which was carrying seven passengers, including six Israeli nationals and one Tanzanian driver. 


The incident took place around 8:45 AM between the Viewpoint and the main gate of Loduare, popular tourist areas within the park.


The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) confirmed that five people were injured in the accident, and one of the victims, a woman, tragically lost her life. 


The driver of the vehicle, a Tanzanian national, was reported to be in good condition and is recovering well after the incident.


NCAA Issues Official Statement

Hamis Dambaya, the Acting Public Relations Manager for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, issued an official statement about the incident, saying: “The accident has resulted in five injuries, and one of them, a woman, has passed away. 


The driver is in good health and is doing well. We continue to monitor the condition of the injured and will provide updates as soon as possible.”


Dambaya also reminded all safari vehicle drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic and conservation regulations, emphasizing that: “We continue to remind safari vehicle drivers to follow road safety laws and conservation regulations to ensure the safety of visitors and the vehicles they use while in the park.”

Injured Victims Transported to Hospitals for Treatment

Following the accident, the injured were rushed to the Lutheran and FAME hospitals in Karatu District for first aid. 


"After receiving initial treatment, the injured were transferred to the Lutheran Selian Hospital in Arusha for further medical care," the NCAA statement noted.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and is praying for a speedy recovery for the injured. 


They also extended prayers for the deceased, wishing for them to rest in peace.
