The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Carolyne Nombo, is leading Tanzania's delegation at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ministerial Meeting on Nuclear Science and Technology, taking place in Vienna, Austria, from November 26 to 28, 2024.
Representing the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, Prof. Nombo is accompanied by Tanzania's Ambassador to Austria, Naimi Aziz, and the Director General of the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission, Prof. Malilio Kipanyula.
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Nombo emphasized the importance of cooperation among member states and with the IAEA in ensuring the safe application of nuclear science to drive development, particularly in the sectors of health, agriculture, food security, water, environment, climate change, and industrial growth.
She provided an update on Tanzania's progress in utilizing nuclear technology safely and highlighted its role in implementing various development projects. Additionally, Prof. Nombo expressed gratitude to the IAEA for its continued support to Tanzania and reaffirmed the country's commitment to strengthening collaboration with the agency.
The meeting, convened to discuss key issues related to nuclear science and its applications, culminated in the adoption of the Ministerial Declaration on Nuclear Science, Technology, and Applications and the Technical Cooperation Programme.
