The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Pindi Chana, praised the management and staff of the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) for their exceptional work in wildlife conservation and revenue collection from tourism activities, highlighting their significant achievements in maintaining national resources and reducing poaching incidents.
During her working visit to TANAPA’s headquarters in Arusha on November 14, 2024, Dr. Chana noted, “The strategy of protecting natural resources from within your own jurisdiction is precisely what I endorse, and TANAPA is executing this effectively.
Being on the ground allows you to better monitor poachers. I direct all institutions under the ministry to learn from TANAPA and implement this approach.”
Earlier , TANAPA’s Conservation Commissioner, Musa Nassoro Kuji, elaborated significant progress made by the organization: “ Over the past four years up to September 2024, there have been no rhino poaching incidents, and elephant poaching cases have decreased from 15 incidents in 2016/2017 to just three in 2023/2024.”
He outlined TANAPA’s continued efforts in strengthening the protection of resources and wildlife, enhancing tourism services, and implementing the Conservation Army system for effective operations.
Dr. Chana also urged all ministry institutions to adhere to the directives issued by the coalition of eight ministries regarding border conflict resolution, uphold President Samia’s 4Rs (Reform, Rebuild, Reconcile, and Reposition), and maintain integrity among officers and staff.
She emphasized that the responsibility of conservation is a mandate entrusted to them on behalf of all Tanzanians.
Commissioner Kuji further commended the sixth-phase government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan for approving the expansion of Serengeti National Park to include the Speke Gulf area.
He noted that compensation for 3,885 households, accounting for 91% of the affected residents, has already been disbursed, and relocation efforts are underway to facilitate conservation activities in the newly included area.
