LAUNCH OF THE UNIQUE IDENTIFIER FOR EAC 25TH ANNIVERSARY



East Africa Community,  Secretary General, Veronica Nduva and (EACJ) Judge President Justice Nestor Kayobera proudly launched the official unique identifier for the EAC’s 25th Anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the community's history.



Secretary General Nduva emphasized the importance of this launch, stating, “With the launch today of the unique identifier, we are starting an intensive conventional and social media campaign that we hope will take the message of integration to all stakeholders. 


All East Africans act at the grassroots as they are the real and true owners of integration.”


The unique identifier will be used to brand campaigns celebrating 25 years of EAC at both national and regional levels. 



Nduva announced that the climax of the celebrations would occur on EAC Day, November 30, 2024, during the 24th ordinary summit of heads of state. 


“The theme of the silver jubilee celebration is 'EAC25' promoting trade, sustainable development, peace, and security for improved livelihoods,” she added.

"You know, when the judiciary of the community, we are grateful for this event, the community is now going to be 25 years old and the court will be 23 years old when the court started in November 2001 and we have already started with the visible of the court 2021 in Burundi, with our rotational Judicial Conference, but also our traditional session In 2022 when Kampala, when we spent 30 days there last year, could not do but we hope that in February we shall be in Rwanda for Judicial Conference, but also for our professional session."


The 25th anniversary celebrations will continue until June 30, 2025, with various activities planned. 



Nduva highlighted the expansion of the EAC, noting, “We will be celebrating two and a half decades of steady growth and expansion of the community that has expanded from three partner states at its formation to the eight partner states we see today.”


The Secretary General also addressed economic progress, citing an increase in intra-regional trade, which now stands at $10.17 billion as of September 2022. 


She remarked, “The increase in intra-regional trade is due to political goodwill among the members of the summit and the participation of our citizens.”


Looking ahead, Nduva mentioned plans for a single currency by 2031 to enhance trade across borders. 


“Trade is a driving force of integration, and will work better when the block has common political aspirations and arrangements,” she stated.


Nduva urged the media to support the campaign by highlighting the achievements of the EAC, concluding, “I appeal to all East Africans to join us as we celebrate 25 years of resilience of the community.”


This anniversary marks a pivotal moment for the EAC as it reflects on its achievements and looks forward to continued integration and collaboration among its member states.
