Efforts to Encourage Voluntary Relocation of Residents Remain Ongoing – Minister Chana

The initiative to educate and encourage voluntary relocation of residents from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to designated government areas remains in place.

Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ambassador Dr. Pindi Chana, recently assured that the government is fully committed to implementing directives aimed at improving community services in the Ngorongoro region.

In her visit to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) headquarters, Dr. Chana underscored the importance of the directives issued by President Samia Suluhu Hassan through Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office for Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, and Coordination, William Lukuvi.

These directives include the issuance of permits for community service improvements, extending park entry hours, ensuring safety within the conservation area, and enhancing the relationship between NCAA and local residents.

Dr. Chana stated, “We are committed to ensuring that all directives from the President are implemented effectively to improve community services and conservation efforts. Our goal is to support the residents and enhance their well-being while preserving the integrity of the conservation area.”

The Minister also highlighted the need for innovative and modern technology to bolster wildlife and forest protection. She encouraged conservation institutions to fully utilize their Boards to improve operational efficiency.

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Natural Resources and Tourism, CP Benedict Wakulyamba, reported that between August 18-23, 2024, residents voiced their concerns peacefully without affecting tourism activities, which continued without disruption.

NCAA Commissioner Dr. Elirehema Doriye confirmed that conservation, tourism, and community development activities are progressing well, with ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and services for visitors.
