Tanzania Hosts East African Community Foreign Ministers' Meeting
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, January Makamba (MP), chaired a closed-door meeting of Foreign Ministers and Ministers responsible for East African Community (EAC) affairs in Zanzibar.
Addressing the three-day summit as its chairperson, Makamba emphasized Tanzania's commitment to ensuring the EAC becomes a strong, unified entity achieving its goals.
"The purpose of this meeting is to strengthen our family, to ensure the East African Community fulfills its responsibilities effectively. As one of the founding members, Tanzania is dedicated to seeing the community united, strong, and successful," said Makamba.
Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, commended Tanzania for hosting the summit, noting it is an opportune time for member states to capitalize on various opportunities within the community for the benefit of their citizens.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs of Uganda, Rebecca Kadaga, thanked the Government of Tanzania for hosting the meeting and praised efforts to strengthen the community.
Chairperson of the Council of Ministers, Deng Alor Kuol, highlighted the importance of the summit, particularly in addressing peace, security, and integration within the community, as steps toward advancing its goals.
The closed-door meeting deliberated on the Chairperson's report from the Heads of State Summit of EAC member countries, as well as peace, security, political dynamics, and relationships among member states.
It also aimed to evaluate and discuss the integration of the East African Community and obstacles hindering the achievement of its program and project goals.
