President Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged citizens to continue paying taxes and government levies, emphasizing their crucial role in the country's development.
She made the call today, July 18, 2024, in Tunduma, Momba District, Songwe Region, while addressing residents during a brief stopover on her way to Dodoma after concluding her official tour of Katavi and Rukwa regions.
"Tax payment is crucial because all the good things and projects the government promises are funded through taxes and levies," said President Samia.
Acknowledging occasional shortcomings in tax collection due to human error, she assured, "We are addressing these issues and making corrections. I urge each and every one of you, in your respective capacities and businesses, to fulfill your tax obligations."
President Samia highlighted that current national projects are funded through tax revenues, stressing, "At times, these funds are insufficient, and we resort to international borrowing, incurring interest. Therefore, it is vital to collect our own revenues to avoid such scenarios."
Earlier, addressing the gathering, Songwe Regional Commissioner Daniel Chongolo noted improved security at the border, creating conducive conditions for business activities. He also addressed the issue of congestion in Tunduma and advocated for the implementation of a road expansion plan from Igawa in Mbeya Region to Tunduma.
