Deputy Secretary General for Tourism at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Nkoba Mabula, has directed the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) to continue innovating new tourism products to attract more visitors to the country.
Mabula issued these directives after receiving a briefing on the state of tourism in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, including improvements in tourism services, promotion of tourist attractions, and plans to design and develop new tourism products, which will be promoted internationally.
During a meeting with NCAA management, Mabula reviewed a presentation on the tourism situation and upcoming new tourism products, such as bicycle tourism at Olduvai, canoeing at Empakaai crater, night game drives, and zipline tourism.
"I have seen the strategies to launch new tourism products such as bicycle tourism, ziplining, boat tourism, continue conducting in-depth research and introduce more new products to be promoted on international platforms to continue attracting more visitors to our country," emphasized Mabula.
During the visit, Mabula also inspected infrastructure improvements on the main road from Loduare gate to Nabi gate, the descent road to Empakaai crater, toilets in the Ngorongoro crater, ICT systems used for payments, and special guest campsites.
He added, "Let us continue to improve infrastructure for other attractions that are not yet accessible to enhance the experience of different visitors from animals that are already familiar. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has already paved the way with the Tanzanzia the Royal Tour film, and visitor numbers have started to increase. Let's further develop to reach 5 million tourists as directed by the ruling party's manifesto."
Assistant Commissioner of Conservation at NCAA (Conservation, Tourism, and Community Development), Vicktoria Shayo, explained that NCAA continues to improve tourism services and promote itself on various platforms locally and internationally, in collaboration with tourism stakeholders. This effort enabled the Ngorongoro Conservation Area alone to receive 908,627 visitors in the 2023/2024 fiscal year, including 354,752 domestic tourists and 553,875 international tourists.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Tourism Services at NCAA, Mariam Kobelo, stated that to enhance customer service, the authority continues to improve ICT infrastructure, customer service training, and visitor-friendly infrastructure at entry gates, allowing visitors to quickly access services upon arrival and proceed with their tourism activities.
This concerted effort underscores Tanzania's commitment to bolstering its tourism sector through innovative products and enhanced visitor experiences at its renowned natural attractions.
